The Latin American Foundation for the Study of the Liver is the official foundation of the Latin American Association for the Study of the Liver (ALEH). It is a non-profit organization created in July 2015 to promote and disseminate hepatology in Latin America and the world in order to improve the quality of life and health of people with liver diseases.

The ALEH Foundation is a charitable organization that invests in innovative research in hepatology and in the people who study and treat liver disease.

Goals

1

To make progress in research, knowledge, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with liver disease.

To link all professionals in medicine and other fields of science and health in any country in Central America, South America, the Caribbean and the United Mexican States in regards to the liver and its diseases.

To stimulate the development of research and teaching in the field of hepatology and related areas.

To contribute to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases.

Board

Dr. Marcelo Silva

President

He is a doctor graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Hospital de Clínicas José de San Martín and received a Gastroenterology fellowship at the Hospital de Clínicas José de San Martín, and also a hepatology fellowship at the Center for Liver Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Miami, in the United States. There he was appointed associate professor of Medicine at the Center for Liver Disease of the University of Miami. Member of the Board of the Clinical Research Unite of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of the Austral University in Buenos Aires (Argentina). He has an extensive experience in clinical trials in the field of chronic hepatitis B and C. He has published in eight books and book chapters, more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, and more than 60 abstracts and presentations at scientific meetings. Past President of the Argentine Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and Past President of ALEH.

Graduated Magna Cum Laude from the UNPHU School of Medicine. He completed the Internal Medicine residency at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, where he then completed the fellowship in Gastroenterology and Therapeutic Endoscopy. Director of the Endoscopy Unite of Clínica Abreu. He is an active member and Past-President of the Dominican Society of Gastroenterology of the Bockus International Society of Gastroenterology and of ALEH.

Treasurer

Medical Degree from Universidad de Chile, specialization in Internal Medicine from Universidad de Chile/Hospital Salvador. He specialized in Hepatology at the Hepatology Unit of King's College Hospital in London, and at the National Institute of Health in the USA. Academic and Gastroenterologist at HCUCH, Director of the Department of Gastroenterology and Professor of Medicine. Former President of ACHHEP, SChGE, ALEH and ALEH Foundation. Author of more than 150 publications and numerous book chapters on Hepatology. He is currently a member of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Transplants of Clinica Las Condes in Santiago.

Hepatology Investigation

Aware of the importance and the impact that new knowledge in hepatology can generate in the population of the Latin American region. The ALEH Foundation has developed a permanent research program in the area of hepatology for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases.

The ALEH Foundation has encouraged and invited its member researchers to work together with scientific, academic and industry organization to advance the progress of knowledge.

Training for doctors and health professionals

The ALEH Foundation is committed to the excellent training of doctors and health professionals to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from liver diseases.

 

Trough various international scholarship programs, it offers new generations the opportunity to improve themselves, relate to leaders in hepatology at a global and become key members of the development of hepatology at a regional level, positively impacting its member countries.

Educating patients about liver health

The ALEH Foundation is committed to patients suffering from liver diseases in Latin America to raise awareness of the importance of liver health and to recognize the most common liver diseases and more importantly how to keep your liver healthy.
