Alcohol-related Liver Disease

Who we are

The «Latin American Group of Special Interest in the Study of Alcoholic Liver Disease (ALEH-GLEHA)» has been created in order to facilitate the linking of those from Latin American groups with an interest in the study of liver disease caused by excessive alcohol consumption.

It seeks to promote collaborative work at the national and international level that contributes to a better understanding of epidemiology, syopathology, diagnosis, natural history, prevention and development of treatment of this problem.

It has as purpose the promotion the quality of scientific research in a collaborative environment for the benefit of the care and treatment of patients with alcoholic liver disease.

To propose the necessary requirements for the development of academic, teaching and training collaborations between Latin American Institutions interested in the study of this pathology.

Goals

  • To foster professionals relationships and create networkings among the members of ALEH.
  • To provide a space to share ideas, strengthen collaboration and encourage basic, translational and clinical research in this area.
  • To develop clinical practice guidelines and educational material for specialist and non-specialist doctors.
  • To promote education among the general public in relation to the prevention and early detection of liver diseases caused by alcohol in order to reduce the burden of alcohol related liver disease.
  • Working with groups of interest from other internal hepatology associations (EASL, AASLD, APASL).
